Our Active School Slogan – The children in both rooms came up with slogans and then created posters. We had a vote to choose the winning slogan. The winning slogan was:
Do Not Sit If You Want To Keep Fit

Active Yard – Active Yard was put in place as part of our Active School Flag process to ensure that all children on the yard are engaging in some type of physical activity during break time. Active Yard involves both rooms having games/yard rotas that were put together with class teachers and the children. Our 4 6th class children are playground leaders and once every week they organise activities for the whole school. They have put in place stations with different physical activities on each and also playing traditional playground games. This has been very successful in not only improving the activity levels of the children but also developing the leadership skills of the children in the senior classes.
Active Classes – Both teachers try to incorporate physical activity into class when possible. Maths trails around the school have been completed throughout the year. At Easter the children took part in an Easter Egg hunt (click here for pictures) following clues around the school. Bug hunts, SESE walks and the junior room love playing Deir O Gradaigh during Gaeilge lessons.
What club are you in? The children in 2nd class carried out a survey that included all the children from 1st class – 6th class. They asked the children in their room to name any clubs they went to outside of school and made a list. They then created a tally to count the children in each club. They went to the senior room and asked then about the clubs they had already on the list and added them to their tally. The senior room had an additional club to add to the list. 2nd class then worked together to create a bar chart showing the results. The Active Agents asked all the children to bring in details about any clubs for example training times or leaflets. These were added to the Active School notice board in the hall.
